Monika Mazur-Rafał,
President of the Managing Board and Director of Humanity in Action Poland

Born in the 70ies, I witnessed the collapse of socialism in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe at an early age. Given this unique experience I became interested in politics and decided to study International Relations at Warsaw University. As I specialized in German Studies, I went on an exchanges first at Free University Berlin and then at Humboldt University Berlin as well as I did an internship at the German Bundestag.
Having developed also a strong interest in European integration, I took part in a joint master studies program of the Warsaw School of Economics and Sciences Politiques Paris. After my studies, I worked in a Polish think tank, Center for International Relations, and after that in International Organization for Migration, where I was a researcher of migration policy issues.
Apart from working as HIA Poland director I am a PhD student at Collegium Civitas. I plan to devote my thesis to the Europeanisation of the Polish migration policy. I am married and have two sons and a daughter. In my very limited spare time I enjoy reading, diving and snowboarding.

Thanks to my work with HIA I can be engaged in human rights issues on a daily basis, which is great because they are very close to my heart. Apart from my work at HIA I am a Cofounder and activist of the Association of Women with Disabilities ONE.pl, which is the first and only NGO in Poland which tackles double discrimination. Co-creator of the first interactive website for women with disabilities in Poland called Open House which gained great popularity among the community. Great fan of social entrepreneurship, helped to create the first Ashoka Foundation's Academy for Young Social Entrepreneurs in Nepal. I earned a BA at the Philological Department at Jagiellonian University and finished two MA-level programs the Institute for the Americas and Europe & interdisciplinary program at the Cross Cultural Relations at the Oriental Institute at University of Warsaw. I have just completed post-grad in philosophy at Collegium Civitas. My further academic research will concern the intersections of structures, cultures/art in social and religious movements and individual actions as well as the examination of the visual/textual representation vis-a-vie power relations. I believe that art can play an essential role in transforming societies. As a result of my love for words/images I write/photograph/make collages & plan to get into filmmaking. I have a variety of weird hobbies and love the wilderness ;-)

Currently, I am following a programme at Donetsk National University, Department of Economics of Enterprises, which I started in 2009 and will continue until 2011.
I like to get acquainted with the leaders of different countries or Ukrainian cities, which enables me to learn from their experiences. I am 24 years old and my biggest dream is to find the common ground that will help people stop to appreciate their religion and skin colour, and appreciate their attitude.

Olga Domorad
I'm a 5th year student of Belarus State University and this is my final year at the University. I'm studying International Law and next October I'm planning to continue my education in the Netherlands or Germany. I'm going to do my LL.M on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. I'm especially interested in Human Rights and now I'm preparing my Bachelor Thesis on international and regional standards for conscientious objectors (alternative service). I'm interested in the rights of minirities, right to religion, right to live (death penalty), students rights and freedom of speech.
Also, I'm studying philosophy and literature, which I find very interesting because these fields are another side of jurisprudence. I like to read good literature about history and international relations, diplomacy. I prefer Russian writers such as Tolstoy, Bulgakov, Pushkin, Axmatova, Okudjava, Cvetaeva, Solzhenitsyn. But at the same time I read a lot of American and European writers, and even Japanese writers. I don't like reading books which are very popular nowadays, because when I read them I cannot feel anything. It's a very exhausting process when you are choosing a book for your future reading. My favourite writer is Garcia Marquez with his books such as Love in Times of Cholera or One Hundred Years of Solitude.
I adore music, such as authors songs (in Soviet Union - bard), blues, jazz, ethnic Belorussian music, folk music. I like movies, of such great directors such as Pedro Almodovar or Emir Kusturica.
When I have free time I participate in Summer Schools on Human Rights, different conferences, discussions, trainings, workshops.
I like to communicate with people. I dream about biking because I want to do my bike trip through Belarus and about a professional digital camera to be able to take good photographs of different parts of our world.

I was born in the city of Krivoi Rog in 1991. I am probably the youngest and the most inexperienced among the participants of the project. In 2000 I was compelled to move to Crimea, to Sevastopol for family reasons. Here for the first time, at school I started to show interest for the topic of tolerance, and have understood that the destiny of those who live nearby me, in the same country, and in general around the world isn't indifferent to me. I took part in the exhibition about tolerance for schoolboys in Sevastopol. I promoted concerts devoted to the various people of Crimea. I also took active part in protest actions concerning infringement of human rights. Since 2009, I study at Taurian National University of Vernadsky, at the Faculty of Law. Anastasiya Moskvychova
What do you mean, asking someone about his or her “life”? Could you tell me about your work, your hobbies, your family? About nationality, marital status? How much money do you earn?
Actually, it’s not about answering. Only about asking. You are, what you ask.  I am just looking for right questions.
I am studying journalism at the Taras Shevchenko University, Kyiv. I am not a member of any organization or political party. But I can’t say: “ I don’t care”. Cause I care. Very much. It’s only one answer l have today.
That’s why I’m here.

Dovile Kidykaite

LABAS!!!!!! I’m Dovile Kidykaite from Lithuania (24 years old). I’m ‘finishing’ being a student and planning to get Master diploma in criminal law and criminology this winter. During my student life I spent fantastic half - a - year in Romania as an Erasmus student and later as an intern. I could say that Erasmus life ‘inspired’ me to travel. Kateryna Kundelska

I enjoy my life and like people who surround me. I do believe that everyone is equal and therefore people must respect each other. I am positive that I have the ideas, ambitions and even some possibility to make these ideas a reality. Maybe, now I am only a student at National University of Taras Schevchenko, but I will strive to realise my plans.

Victoria Zaitseva
I study Political Science in Kyiv, at National Taras Schevchenko University and I am happy to be part of this Project.
Recently, I have finished my eight month long Parliamentary internship, in the Committee of Justice of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. At the moment I am working on my diploma research about ethnic coalitions and ethnic politics, in which together with history of ethnicity and multinational societies I have true interest.
I like photography, meeting new people (which always help to open new horizon), as well as travelling and getting to know new cultures. My other hobbies are studying foreign languages, dreaming and making them true, and above all winning. As Oscar Wilde once said, “life is like the box of crayons. Most people are the 8-th colour boxes, but what you are really looking for are the 64- colour boxes with the sharpeners on the back…”
